We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand
fibers connect us with our fellow-men; and along those fibers, as
sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as
effects.

Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin presents "My Dream" awards
to Airyn and Tyler.
5/27/07 Students at Fayetteville Intermediate have big dreams for the
world.
Their dreams are so big, that over 85 percent of the schools
480 students participated in the Georgia Statewide Essay Contest, My Dream,
that was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.s I Have a Dream collection at
Morehouse College.
Third through fifth grade students were asked to submit a
200-400 word essay about their dream for the world. Essays focused on a subject
that students felt needed attention or changing and discribed how they would
make the change or improvement.
Because of the schools overwhelming participation,
Fayetteville Intermediate was honored during an awards ceremony at the Atlanta
History Center and received $250.
Two of the schools students were also honored for their award
winning essays. Fourth grader Tyler Brown wrote an essay about medical care for
soldiers and Airyn Nash based hers on homeless shelters for kids.
The Atlanta History Center, AT&T and Margaret Mitchell House
and Museum sponsored the contest. Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and other
dignitaries were in attendance to help present the awards.
