We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow-men; and along those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.

Six essential qualities that are the key to success: Sincerity, personal integrity, humility, courtesy, wisdom, charity. - William Menninger

How safe is Fayetteville?

  | Home

6/8/07 On May 8, 2007 the Fayetteville Police Department released its 2006 Annual Report which detailed the many aspects of the Department. One of the focus points of the report is the Crime Statistics for Part I and Part II Crimes. Crimes are defined and categorized by the FBI and the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.

While the 2006 Annual Report published by the Fayetteville Police Department shows raw data numbers and raw value comparison numbers, in response to recent inquiries the department conducted an additional analysis of its crime statistics.  The Crime Analysis Unit of the Department compared the Part I Crime numbers from the year 2000 to 2006 to determine the change in crime in comparison to the change in population.  Using the estimated population of 10,000 in the year 2000 to the estimated population of 14,000 in 2006 for the City of Fayetteville the number of overall Part I crimes has decreased 38.3% on a per resident (per person) basis. Aggravated Assaults have decreased 10% on a per resident (per person) basis; Burglary has decreased 29% on a per person (per resident) basis; Larceny has decreased 40% on a per person (per resident) basis; Robbery has decreased 17% on a per person basis; and Motor Vehicle Theft has decreased 21% on a per person (per resident) basis.

Comparing the City of Fayetteville to other comparable size cities throughout the State, Fayetteville is among the lowest in violent crimes. To view the FBI UCR statistics visit the FBI’s website at http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm

The 2006 Annual Report is available for viewing in its entirety on the City of Fayetteville website at www.fayetteville-ga-us.org  Copies of the Report are also available at the Fayetteville Police Department. While at the Police Department we encourage you to complete a “Citizen Survey” also available in the lobby of the Police Department.
