Crossing the Line in Faith11/9/07 (12:06 a.m.) Sam and Julie Hawkins know the true meaning of crossing the line. They've been crossing the line with faith in El Salvador since 1987. Sam recently spoke to the First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City about Love Link, a nutritional recovery center for malnourished babies and children in El Salvador. During the last twenty years of this service, Sam and Julie have successfully treated over 1000 babies. Not only do they take in the children and nourish them, they also feed their families for several months. "Faith is an invisible line in front of you," said Sam. "We have somebody who doesn't get lost. We can always come back to God. God places the idea on the heart to do his work. Cross the line. God is there." During his talk, Sam recounted stories of several memorable children. It is not uncommon for Sam and Julie to receive a child up to one year of age who only weighs 8 pounds. They've also successfully treated 3 year old children weighing only 10 pounds. "Every time I think I've seen the worst, someone comes in." First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City has been supporting the mission work of Sam and Julie for almost 18 years. The next mission trip of church members to assist Love Link is planned for February 2008. For more information on Love Link, go to www.love-link.org. Part two in this series will show you Sam's new extraordinary ministry with El Salvador's most feared felons. by Ann Eldredge Home | Faith | Back to top
