DAR Going Red to Help Raise Awareness of Heart Disease
The DAR will be supporting the American Heart Associations national Go Red For Women movement to make women aware of their risk for heart disease, the No. 1 cause of death among women, and take action to reduce their risk. In addition to lighting red the DAR Headquarters building, DAR employees and members will join with thousands of women, organizations and cities across America by wearing red on National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 1, 2008. Betty Harrah, Regent, Fayetteville's James Waldrop Chapter, DAR, stated, "As women we are busy taking care of everyone else in our lives and not ourselves. We must realize that we should take care of our heart health so we can live active and productive lives for many years into our golden age. We need to set the example for our children and our friends." She continued, "As women we should pay close attention to our bodies, learn the symptoms of a heart attack, get your cholesterol checked yearly and start exercising, even if it is just around the block to start. Even as busy I am as Regent of my DAR chapter and active in other organizations, I still find time to exercise everyday." "We are proud that the Daughters of the American Revolution can
show our support of the Go Red For Women movement," said DAR President General,
Linda Gist Calvin. "We encourage the 165,000 members of our organization, as
well as all Americans, to join in the fight against heart disease and learn more
about taking the steps necessary to live longer, healthier lives." Home | | Back to top
