Teachers Selected to Participate in $1 Million American History GrantThe teachers, representing the fourth, fifth, eighth and eleventh grades, will join their peers from Henry and Cobb Counties as participants in this latest grant that focuses on westward expansion, including industrialization and immigration. By the end of the program, the educators will be master teachers in the historical content from 1800 to 1893. Fayette’s participants are Georgia Frisch, Cleveland Elementary, Sally J. Meyer, Crabapple Lane Elementary; Suzy Givens, Kedron Elementary; Kim Morgan, Oak Grove Elementary; Teresa Rozakos, Sara Harp Minter Elementary; Cathy Carlton, Bennett’s Mill Middle; Susan Adams, J.C. Booth Middle; Susan Skaff, Flat Rock Middle; John Vaughn, Flat Rock Middle; JoAnn Rouse, Rising Starr Middle; Janet Norman, Fayette County High; Laurette Edenfield, McIntosh High; Walt Ellison, Starr's Mill High; Becky McQueen, Whitewater High and Garth Potter, Fayette County Evening High. The teachers will visit the northeastern and western portions of the United States during the summer to learn about the expansion of those regions. Program participants will also learn from nationally noted historians. Using the knowledge they learn through the grant program, the teachers will conduct professional development activities for their peers, create teacher resources and present at professional conferences. This is the third Teaching American History Grant received by the three school systems. The first grant was awarded in 2003 ($984,115) for the study of 1945 to the present and the second grant was received in 2005 ($999,622) for the study of the Colonial Era.
