1/11/08 (8:27 p.m.) The 2007 Fayette County Spelling Bee champions were crowned
during the school system�s annual spelling bee on December 10 at the LaFayette
Educational Center.
Dayna Gomes, an eighth grader at Fayette Middle, and Logan
Austin, a seventh grader at Bennett�s Mill Middle, are this year�s top spellers.
The next step in the competition is the GAE (Georgia Association of Educators)
District 5 Spelling Bee at Mundy's Mill Middle on February 23. The district
winner will advance to the state competition.
Objectives of the spelling bee are to�help students spell
quickly and accurately, promote students� correct word usage in meaningful
activities,�help students correct misspelled words automatically, help students
learn to compete and�provide an environment to promote students� self-esteem,
character development and sportsmanship.
The Fayette County Association of Educators, GAE and the
National Education Association sponsored the county spelling bee.
