We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand
fibers connect us with our fellow-men; and along those fibers, as
sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as
effects.

Fayette County High’s Historical Magazine Wins
Top Awards
10/11/07 The American Scholastic Press Association has named Fayette
County High’s 2007 edition of “Fayette Portraits” as Best Literary Magazine with
Special Merit and Outstanding Theme/Historical Magazine.
Over 2,000 high schools across America participated in the
2007 American Scholastic Press Association’s competition. Out of a possible
1,000 points, the magazine fell short just 20 points from having a perfect
score. This year’s score of 980 is up 30 points from last year.
“Fayette Portraits” is a student-directed study of Fayette
County and its culture, traditions and people. Students select and interview
long-time Fayette residents who share their memories and historical data about
the county. The students take the information, along with photos and artwork
they collect, and publish articles in the yearly magazine.
Students hold annual fundraisers to pay for publishing
expenses. The magazine is sold through Fayette County High.
The 2007 publication marked the 20th edition of the magazine,
which started in 1986 as an oral history project by teacher Becky Lewis.
Terrell Williams is the current sponsor of “Fayette Portraits.”
