Tainsh: Plea for Support and Honor for Soldiers
Attached are photos of a returning Georgian and hero, USMC
Cpl John C Tanner, to the Columbus Airport on Sept 3, 2007. This process
of the return home with dignity was signed into legislation in January,
2007 by President Bush thanks to a California mom and dad, dear friends of
mine, whose only child and son died in Iraq, Nov 2005.
With their persistence and help from California Senator
Duncan Hunter they created new legislation for families who follow our
path of heartbreak and chaos. My husband and I, and other families prior
to this, had to know our sons were brought home on a commercial flight
with baggage and placed in the cargo area of airports until a hearse
picked up our heroes. If families were even allowed at the airport, that
is how they saw their heroes remains treated.
I provide this as an example due to my concerns with the
lack of support and honor by our Georgia Politicians.
Cpl Tanner's service was held on Friday, Sept 7, in
Columbus GA. Not a single Georgia State Politician was there to provide
any words of condolence or honor as far as I know.
As parents of fallen hero Sgt Patrick Tainsh, 2/11/04, my
husband, USMC Sgt Maj David Tainsh, and I, along with our 100 other
Georgia fallen hero's families,
feel that the state and cities of Georgia politicians have
let us down in the most tremendous way.
Other states and cities fly the flag at half mast over the
capitol (California, North Carolina) and then provide that flag to the
family after the death of a fallen hero in Iraq or Afghanistan. Alabama
always has a person present from the Governor's office. VFW and American
Legion members come.
In Georgia (a leader for the greatest infantry training
center in the world, Marines and Air Force), doesn't do any of these
things, nor have I seen a Georgia state official attend a single service
that my husband and I have attended in the Columbus/Ft Benning area.
I had to call the city of Columbus and ask why they don't
show honor for our fallen. A kind hearted city councilmen did come on
Friday for this great Marine's service and spoke to the family. He is
going to put forth a resolution to the Columbus City Council for more to
be done to honor our fallen and families. Our police department and fire
department never do anything. I've seen these departments in states like
Alabama, even Phoenix City, come out in strength for their families and
heroes.
Our Georgia families are sacrificing much for this
nation, PLEASE HELP US TO MOVE FORWARD MORE BRAVELY BY KNOWING OUR STATE
AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS CARE FOR THEIR PEOPLE. Please help us
regain our faith in our state and nation that is to govern OUR REPUBLIC
FOR THE PEOPLE AND BY THE PEOPLE.
GIVE OUR GA FALLEN HEROES AND THEIR FAMILIES FAITH AGAIN.
PLEASE DON'T MAKE US BEG OR ASK, HAVE A HEART TO STAND FOR US. MAKE
GEORGIA PROUD. Give our future families your hearts and hands.
The state of Hawaii has created the State Medal of Honor
for their fallen heroes that is given to their family. MAKE GEORGIANS
PROUD, PLEASE.
I hope to hear from you all with support to help make a
difference.
I will encourage citizens of GA to contact their local
politicians to endorse this great need.
God bless each of you and God bless America. Make us one, make us proud.
Best regards,
Deborah and USMC Sgt Maj (ret) David Tainsh
proud parents U.S. Army Sgt Patrick Tainsh
