We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand
fibers connect us with our fellow-men; and along those fibers, as
sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as
effects.

Christian City
Christian City is a non-denominational, non-profit, with a
mission to minister to the needs of families with particular emphasis on
children, the aged and the infirm, by providing high quality, efficient,
effective and affordable residential, health and social services delivered in
accordance with the principles of the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Christian City isn't located in Fayette County but many of our native Fayette
Countians and relatives have relocated to Christian City! Most of us feel as
though Christian City IS a part of Fayette County.
Christian City began with a need. A group of concerned citizens from area
Christian churches gathered in 1961 to discuss certain needs that were not being
met in the community at that time. On March 28, 1962 Christian City was
chartered as a non-profit and the fund raising began.
The first facility was the Home for Children, built on 50 acres of donated
land in South Fulton county. On February 14, 1965 the first children's cottage
opened. Currently there are eight cottages with the capacity to serve 62
children on the campus plus 24 in foster care.
In 1967 the first Life Lease Home opened. Today there are four communities
with 219 units that serve close to 300 retirees.
Since then they have continued to grow. Today there are four manors (291
rental apartments) to serve physically handicapped individuals and seniors on a
limited income. There is a Convalescent Center with 200 beds which provides
restorative, rehabilitative and Alzheimer's care. In 1986 the Sparks Inn
retirement Center opened with the capacity for 207 residents. A Welcome Center
opened as the "Main Entrance" to the campus in 2002. The Center includes a
Chapel and the Administrative offices.
If there is ever any doubt what a few committed individuals are capable of
creating from dreams, simply look at Christian City! Today Christian City serves
over 1000 residents, employs nearly 400 individuals, utilizes more than 200
volunteers and has 91 buildings on over 500 acres of land!
3-24-07 At their weekly meeting at the Wyndham Conference Center
in Peachtree City, the Rotary Club of Peachtree City recently presented
Christian City a gift of $1,000. The donation is in support of the new

City's campus in Union City. The Children's Village will be comprised
of eight to ten new cottages for the abandoned or neglected children
that are in Christian City's care. Administrative offices and
recreational facilities are also planned.
Since 1965 Christian City has been providing
loving homes to less fortunate children in a residential setting with
full time houseparents. As a nonprofit, nondenominational organization,
they also have opportunities for retiring seniors, care for the the
elderly and the infirm, as well as care for those who suffer from
Alzheimer's disease. For more information on Christian City call

4/22/08 (6:53 p.m.) Last Saturday, Dr. Byron Harper, Jr. passed away. There was a

cemetery. He ended his personal presence as humbly as he lived…quiet,
unassuming, loving, positive, an encourager of all that is good and decent.
His voice is now silent, but his legacy...
