12/20/07 (1:44 p.m.) The Frankie Lyle Chapter of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy (R) in Jonesboro, GA. observed Veterans Day in a
Ceremony of Bestowal of Crosses of Military Service to eight in appreciation for
their service to our Country by presenting each with Crosses of Military
Service. The Frankie Lyle Chapter has members in Clayton, Fayette, and
Henry counties.

Revolutionary
War Soldier John Harris Remembered
11/26/07 (5:25 p.m.) Ida "Bea" Fischer, Georgia State Society
Northeast District Director, and Lynn Dorney of Fayetteville, attend the grave
marking of Revolutionary War soldier John Harris. Mrs. Dorney who is a member of
the Augustin Clayton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in
Jonesboro, Ga. Prsented the Chapter wreath. John Harris served at King’s
Mountain and is believed to have served at Yorktown. The grave dedication was at
the William Harris homestead in Walton County, Ga. The Augustin Clayton Chapter
of the DAR has members from Fayette County, Henry County and Clayton County.

Wins Award
8/27/07 The Augustin Clayton Chapter,
Daughters of the American Revolution in Jonesboro received
a National award at the 116th Continental Congress in Washington,
D.C. for the 2006 Most Outstanding Chapter Report for Constitution
Week along with six other certificates for Constitution Week.
The Augustin Clayton Chapter DAR has members from Clayton,
Fayette, and Henry County.
Fayetteville DAR Names First Slate of Officers
The James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution has
elected its first officers. As the newest DAR chapter in Fayette
County, The James Waldrop Chapter will focus its volunteer work
in the areas of patriotism, preserving American history and
promoting education. The DAR is the world's largest non-profit
women's service organization.
PTC Student Wins DAR Essay Contest at Local and District Levels
1-28-07 Cassandra Eldredge, a 5th grader at Peachtree City
Elementary School, has been named the winner of the Augustin
Clayton Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution 5th Grade
Essay Contest for 2007. In addition, her essay was forwarded on to
the NW District of the Georgia Society DAR.
It was announced last week by the NW District that her essay took
top honors as well. Eldredge is now one of four finalists for the
state of GA, with the winner of the Georgia Society DAR to be
announced in March at the state conference. The topic this year
was in recognition of the 400th year of the founding of
Jamestown.
Receiving Honorable Mention by the Augustin Clayton Chapter DAR
were Henry County 5th graders Courtney Wagener of New Hope
Elementary and Jordan Winston of Luella Elementary.
The DAR is open to any woman 18 years or older who can trace her
lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. For

Kedron Celebrates Constitution Week
In conjunction with the Fayette-Starr's Mill chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, Kedron Elementary will
celebrate Constitution Week with a patriotic display in the Media
Center. Included in the display is a proclamation signed by Mayor
Harold Logsdon designating September 17-23 as Constitution Week.

4-23-07 The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
made history as they formally welcomed the newest chapter into its
fold. The James Waldrop Chapter NSDAR was officially organized in
Fayetteville April 21, 2007, with a total of 42 members.
4/2/08 (10:13 a.m.) The James Waldrop Chapter NSDAR will be
celebrating its first anniversary as a chapter later this
month. Last weekend, the chapter was honored to receive
several awards from the GA Society NSDAR 110th State
Conference for 2007 activities. Among the awards presented
to the ladies are:
1st Place- American History Publicity
1st Place- DAR Community Service Award
1st Place- Most New Members by Application: 26-50 members
2nd Place- Outstanding Contribution to Hindman Settlement
School
Certificate of Award- Outstanding Constitution Week

Several other certificates of appreciation were also presented
to the chapter. Regent Betty Harrah remarked, "I am very
proud of our members who volunteer their time and efforts to

Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution in Jonesboro was recently
presented from the National Daughters of the American Revolution Membership

Fayetteville DAR Chapter Welcomes New Member
2/8/08 (1:56 p.m.) The James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of
the American Revolution welcomed Gerry Haymans as a new member at a January
tea. Becoming a member of the world's largest service organization, Haymans
will now join with other women to support the goals of the National
DAR Society; History Preservation, Education and Patriotism. Pictured (l-r)

Chance was recently honored by the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the
American Revolution for his unyielding support of the United States
Constitution.Chance also

Perdue, in which the governor thanked the DAR for their support in teaching

Gen ProTrucking
Supports DAR Education Project
11/25/07 (8:22 p.m.) Gen ProTrucking, a subsidiary of
General Produce, Inc. located at the State Farmers Market is supporting
the Georgia State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution
State Regent’s Project of educating Georgia citizens about Meadow Garden
and promoting its historical preservation as their trucks travel through
the southeastern states. Meadow Garden is the home of George Walton, the
youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of Georgia’s
signers. General Produce is a third generation family owned business
involving three generations of DAR members of the Augustin Clayton Chapter
in Jonesboro, Georgia.
Spring Hill Elementary Students Pledge Support to America
10/11/07 The fifth grade students of
Spring Hill Elementary recently stood in line to sign
their support of the US Constitution. Members of the James
Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution spoke
to the students about the drafting and signing of the
Constitution 220 years ago. Students then read the
Preamble to the Constitution aloud from copies Congressman
Lynn Westmoreland donated, and signed their support to the
US Constitution. A DVD and teacher study guide about the
Constitution were also donated to the school from the
James Waldrop Chapter DAR.
Augustin
Clayton Chapter Honor Trammell
10/5/07 Lynn Dorney of Fayetteville, and
State 1st Vice Regent, Barbara Chastain, attend the
grave marking of Thomas Trammell. Barbara Chastasin
presented the GSSDAR wreath and Lynn Dorney who is a
member of the Augustin Clayton Chapter of the Daughters
of the American Revolution in Jonesboro, Ga. presented
the Chapter wreath.
Thomas Trammell was a private in
Captain Hughes’ Company of Colonel Roebuck’s Regiment of
the South Caroline line. He fought at Kettle Creek and
King’s Mountain. Thomas Trammell’s wife, Mary, was also
honored. They are buried in the Antioch United Methodist
Church of Thomaston’s cemetery.
Members of the
James Waldrop Chapter visited local elementary schools,
met with elected officials and set up displays throughout
the county, educating many on one of our country's most
important documents, the Constitution.

Crossroads Christian School Receives Patriotic
Gift from Local DAR
12/6/07 (10:02 a.m.) Crossroads Christian School
was recently presented the DVD "A More Perfect Union" with
accompanying teacher guide from the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters
of the American Revolution. School officials' excitement was evident
as their 7th and 8th grade students are beginning their study of the
US Constitution. "Promoting
patriotism and education are among what we do best," Eldredge said during the
presentation.
Fayetteville DAR Welcomes New Members
Two new members were inducted into the
James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution at the September meeting.
The mother and daughter duo, Anita Davis and Elizabeth Van der Hoek, received
a warm welcome from the chapter as well as a DAR pin. By joining the
DAR, ladies are encouraged to promote patriotism, education and
preserve American History.

FCBOE Urges Students to Study Constitution
8/28/07 At a recent FCBOE
meeting, John DeCotis presented a proclamation for the upcoming National
Constitution Week to the James Waldrop Chapter Daughters of the American
Revolution. The proclamation urges all students in Fayette County to study
the US Constitution and reflect on the privilege of being an American.

On the grounds of Mount Vernon, former home of President George
Washington, the National Society Children of the American
Revolution installed its new national officers.
Three of those young people are from Georgia. Sydney Wynn McRee,
a junior at Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, was installed as
National Assistant Registrar. Sarah Dorney, a junior at Fayette
County High School in Fayetteville will serve as the Georgia State
President for the 2007-2008 year. Kevin Baker, a junior at
Lovejoy High School in Hampton was installed as National 1st Vice
President....
Shane Mudrinich, a 6th grade student at Rising Starr
Middle School, was recently named the 2007 American History Essay Contest
Winner for 6th grade by the Augustin Clayton Chapter Daughters of the
American Revolution. Pictured with Mudrinich is Regent Becky West of
Fayetteville. Mudrinich's winning essay on the Founding of Jamestown was
selected from students in Fayette, Henry and Clayton Counties.
