The group believes the key to
strengthening families is communication. By bringing all of the combined
resources of the public and private organizations, faith based groups and the
government with families, the families needs are met, strengthened and the
entire community is positively impacted.
FACTOR networks with similar
collaboratives in the other 158 Georgia counties through the Family Connection
Partnership. This partnership enhances the local groups' ability to work with
families.
The goal of FACTOR is to have the
children of Fayette County "live in safe, stable neighborhoods, strengthen our
families, and help them to become and/or remain self-sufficient."
Currently their primary focus is
to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related arrests for juveniles. They
plan to do this through educational forums and seminars designed to raise parent
and community awareness of drug and alcohol related issues. They will also work
directly with youth, supporting them to become peer mentors.
Drugs and alcohols are not the
only focus of the group. Recently they kicked off Child Abuse Awareness month in
conjunction with DFCS. (see story in Helping Hands).
Currently over 30 local groups
participate in FACTOR and the number is growing as this dedicated force makes
more and more of an impact on the county.
They meet the fourth Monday of
the month at the Fayette Family YMCA, 215 Huiet Rd., Fayetteville. Meetings are
from noon - 1:30 with lunch being served at 11:30 a.m. (RSVP needed for lunch).
