We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand
fibers connect us with our fellow-men; and along those fibers, as
sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as
effects.

11-26-06 Fayette County is chocked full of
interesting places to visit. One that many might not have on
their list of places to visit is the Fayette Historical Society.
The Society can't be compared to Disney World, but it certainly
is fascinating in its own way!
Recently I made my
first visit to the Society, not having any idea as to what I'd
find inside the aged house in Fayetteville....

The Fayette County Historical Society was chartered
as a
nonprofit corporation in July 1971 to discover, collect, preserve
and make accessible to the public materials which establish and
illustrate the history of the county, its cities, towns, villages
and institutions.

Dr. Kirby Johnson to Speak at Historical Society
Meeting May 18
4/25/08 (8:50 p.m.) History takes many forms, but
oral history and storytelling remind us of our past, our roots and
the changes that have taken place in our area. The Fayette County
Historical Society’s monthly meeting will be May 18 at 3 p.m. at the
Margaret Mitchell Research Center at 195 Lee Street. The public is
invited to hear Dr. Kirby Johnson. He is a native of Fairburn.
After receiving his Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from Auburn
University in 1946, he began his career as an intern at the Decal
County Veterinarian Hospital and then opened his private practice in
Fairburn in the late 1940's.
He and his wife Betty
have 6 daughters and 4 sons, 16 grandchildren and 3
great-grandchildren. He has many rich stories to tell about his
experiences serving citizens of Fayette County.
He also has become a
student of the McCook-Stoneman's Raid; and is the historian of his
local Sons of Confederate Veterans group. In his spare time he has
been a member of the barbershop harmony group The Southland Chorus.
Please invite someone
to join us on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 3 p.m.
For directions or additional information contact
