study is taught in each of Peachtree City’s elementary schools. Additional

November. Students from each school class submit essays on what the program
meant to them. Pictured are the essay winners from each 5th grade

Peachtree City Kiwanis Supports CERT (In More Ways Than One)

Tom Beckham, Bonnie Helander - CERT Auxiliary, and
Harold Logsdon - Peachtree City Mayor.
5/20/07 The city of Peachtree City has over 130
individuals trained as members of a Community Emergency Response
Team (CERT). These individuals were trained by members of the
police department. The program educates participants about
disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and
trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire
safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster
medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom
and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their
neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional
responders are not immediately available to help. Fifteen
members of the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City recently completed
the necessary training to become CERT qualified. Newly trained
members were recognized at a recent City Council meeting.
Kiwanis President Tom Beckham, a new CERT graduate, surprised
CERT officials by donating $5000 to assist in funding this
important community action effort.
