Offshoot
Productions offers professional cast productions; acting classes for
children, teens, and adults; year-round acting workshops and summer
theatre camps; and numerous volunteer opportunities.
About the Artistic Director
Susan M.
Steadman, Ph.D. has directed some four dozen productions for professional,
alternative, community, and educational theatres from New Jersey to Texas,
and has taught theatre at numerous universities, colleges and private
schools. With a specialty in improvisation, she has conducted acting and
directing workshops in Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, Texas, and Georgia. A
produced playwright and member of the Dramatists Guild, she has also
authored many articles on theatrical practice and on dramatic literature and
criticism. Her articles have appeared in such publications as Dramatics
and Women & Performance. Her scholarly book on theatre and feminism,
Dramatic Re-Visions, published in late 1991 by the American Library
Association, received glowing reviews.
She holds a
Ph.D. in Theatre from Louisiana State University, a master's degree in
Educational Theatre from New York University, and a B.A. in English summa
cum laude from William Smith College. Prior to performing in New York's
off-off Broadway scene of the tumultuous late 1960's, she studied acting at
the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, HB Studio and the New School (all
located in New York City).
Currently
producing artistic director of Offshoot, Dr. Steadman has adjudicated the
Georgia High School Association One-Act Play Competition, and has also been
an adjudicator for such organizations as the American College Theatre
Festival and the Women and Theatre Program's national Jane Chambers
Playwright Award.
A native of
New York, she has spent most of her adult life in the Midwest and Southeast.
She moved to Peachtree City ten years ago with her husband, Bill, and their
two children: Paige, a student at Gordon College in Barnesville, GA, and
Jeremy, a recent alumnus of Berry College. All three are accomplished
musicians and active in theatre.
