Over 2200 Run the Paths in Peachtree City Saturday Morning

10/18/08 10/18/08
Friday night, the rain put a slight damper on activities at the
Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City, but many

2008 Peachtree City Classic to be Held on
October 18th
Saturday, October 18, are as follows:
Open 15K 8:30 AM
Women's 5K 8:40 AM
Men's 5K 8:50 AM
IronMan presentation: Atlanta resident
Henry Forrest competed in the very first IronMan competition in
Hawaii in 1978. Gordon Haller won that competition. Both will be at
a special presentation on Thursday, 17 January, at the Wyndham
Peachtree Executive Conference Center at 7:30 PM to recount their
experiences in this now world famous athletic competition. Sadly,
Henry is suffering from pancreatic cancer, so this will probably be
his last recounting of that famous seminal event. His family and the
press will be recording the presentation for posterity. Gordon is
flying in from Colorado especially to accompany his long time friend
and fellow competitor. Our sister organization, the Peachtree City
Triathlon Club, is organizing the event and has invited our club to
attend as well. You don't want to miss this slice of athletic
history. It promises to be a special event for all in attendance.
Kid's Fun Run Director needed: On another note, the
long time Race Director for this event, Teri Besch, is stepping down
after 13 years. We are looking for a replacement to keep this
tradition going. We have already put down the deposit with the
Recreation Department to reserve the date for Saturday, 17 May. If
you think you would be interested in taking over this community
tradition, please let me know prior to the next club meeting on
Monday, 4 February.
Equipment Manager needed: Anyone who has a key to
the shed (which I understand is most everyone in the club except
me!) is qualified to take over this position. Jerry Shoemaker or
Lynn Fairley can explain the duties and responsibilities. Please
let a board member know if you are interested in being a Club Hero
by taking over this Coordinator Position.

8/17/08 (9:16 p.m.) In the tradition of the Peachtree 10K
that several years ago began to host a “shadow run” for American troops
in the Middle East, the Peachtree City Classic will follow suit and host
a 5K for American and Iraqi soldiers stationed at Al Kindi Army Base
near Mosul as part of their annual Peachtree City Classic this year...
