McIntosh Trail Kiwanis Donates to Southern Conservation Trust

The McIntosh Trail Kiwanis
Club made a $250 donation to the Southern Conservation Trust to further its
efforts to protect greenspace in Fayette and Coweta counties. (L-R): Dennis

4/24/08 (8:54 a.m.) The McIntosh Trail Kiwanis Club is the newest Kiwanis in the
area and meets each Tuesday at noon at Sundried Tomato. Southern Conservation
Trust is a community land trust founded in 1993 by local volunteers. It is the
only land trust working to preserve land on the Southside of Atlanta. The
Trust owns, manages and protects over 1,300 acres, including four donated
preserves – Flat Creek Nature Area in Peachtree City and Line Creek Nature
Area, on the border of Fayette and Coweta counties. In 2008 the Trust is
working to open two new preserves in Fayette County for our residents’
enjoyment – Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary and Morgan Grove Preserve.

2/15/08 (8:41 p.m.) Even though development has slowed recently, the Southside of
Metro Atlanta remains one of the fastest growing areas in the state, resulting
in the loss of farms and wildlife habitat that many residents value. Thanks to
a local land trust, now more than 1300 acres have been protected from
development forever.
