The American Legion is the largest veterans service
organization in the world. Post 105 has members from across Fayette
County. Post 105 meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the
Log Cabin, just south of the old Fayette County Court House in
Fayetteville.

American Legion Observes Flag Day

6/3/08 (5:56 p.m.) The American Legion Fayette
County Post 105 reminds all citizens that Saturday, June 14 is
Flag Day. In honor of Flag Day, the "Betsy Ross" Flag will be
flown in front of the American Legion Log Cabin in Fayetteville on
that date. The Continental Congress approved this design of 13
stars and 13 red and white stripes as the first official national
flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. Denny Leander, Post

American Legion Honors Law Enforcement and
Emergency Services

American Legion Fayette County Post 105 annually honors the
outstanding members of the community law enforcement and emergency services
with their 2008 Public Safety Awards. This year's award recipients are Lt
Dean Johnson, Tyrone Police Dept, Lt Scott Gibson, Fayetteville Police Dept,
Cpl Robert Todd, Peachtree City Police Dept, Paramedic Norman Gibby, Fayette
County Fire and Emergency Services, Sgt Kevin Baggett, Peachtree City Fire
Dept, Lt Mike Matthews, Fayetteville Fire Dept, Deputy Thomas Gillespie,
Fayette County Marshal's Office, Capt H.L. Meyer, Fayette County Sheriff's
Office. Post 105 meets on the second Monday of the month at the Log Cabin in
Fayetteville.

3/6/08 (9:09 p.m.) Vice President of Honor Flight Fayette, Mark
Buckner, spoke recently to Peachtree City American Legion Post 50 regarding the
foundation's scheduled May 14th trip to the nation's capitol, which will be a
free day trip for the WWII veterans who are going on the flight...

8/6/08 (10:15 p.m.) Matthew Niebes has been selected as The
American Legion 2008 Eagle Scout of the Year for the Department of Georgia.
Shown on the left presenting the Eagle Scout of the Year plaque is Deana
Rowe, Scouting Chairman for the Department of Georgia. Matthew received a
$500 scholarship and a handsome plaque. He lives in Peachtree City and is a
member of Troop 309, sponsored by Fayette County Post 105. Matthew earned
the God and Church award, is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow,
attended the 2005 National Scout Jamboree, the 2006 National Order of the
Arrow Conference and the Florida Sea Base. His Eagle Scout service project
involved collecting over 500 back packs and duffle bags for shipment
to injured military personnel at the Contingency Aeromedical Support
Facility, Ramstein AB, Germany. Matthew is a junior at McIntosh High School
and recently completed a 3 week summer language exchange program in
Germany.

4/28/08 (10:48 p.m.) March was National Women's History Month
and Fayette County Post 105 of the American Legion honored "Women in the
Military" at their March meeting. The Lady Legionnaires, pictured with their
branch of service are B/Gen Anne MacDonald, Army, Helen Denton, Army, Sharon
Collins, Army, Deana Rowe, Marine Corps, Mavis Compagno, Air Force, and
Carmen Streit-Smith, Army. These veterans represent military service
spanning the years from World War II to the present day. Not pictured are
members Susan Northrup, Air Force, Carmen Madero, Army, Christine Koch,
Army, Gloria Norris, Army, and Geneva Martin, Marine Corps. Fayette County
Post 105 meets the second Monday evening of each month at the Log Cabin,
just south of the old County Court House in Fayetteville.

3/2/08 (7:12 p.m.) Each year, Fayette County Post 105 of The
American Legion sponsors a patriotic public speaking competition for students in
our local high schools. The winner of the 2008 Oratorical Contest was Eric
Bogert, a junior at Fayette County HS and a member of the FCHS Debate team. Eric
received a $100 scholarship for First Place and went on to represent Post 105 at
the district level, finishing as District Runner-up. Shown on the left,
presenting the First Place check to Eric is Herman Miller, Oratorical Judge and
former Post 105 Commander.
