At 4 a.m.
Saturday morning most of us were still soundly snoring, oblivious to what the
day might bring. While we snoozed, a dedicated group of Kiwanians and
Methodist men stoked the fires and prepared for a day of barbecue and
fellowship.

The two groups served 1500 lunches on Saturday raising somewhere
in the neighborhood of $7,000!

The joint venture between the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City
and the Methodist Men of Peachtree City United Methodist Church raised money
this year for area scouts. The majority of the proceeds will go towards
construction and furnishing of the Scout Lodge in the woods behind the
church on Robinson Road. All area scouts (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub
Scouts) will use the facility.

A LOT of volunteers worked long
hours to make the event a success. |

After the chicken was cooked,
each piece was “dipped” in a special BBQ sauce. Beans, also from a “secret”
recipe”, were cooked over coals in two large drums. When ready, everything
was sent to the church kitchen where another crew boxed the lunches, adding
cole slaw. Lunches were bagged and given to take-out customers by volunteer
scouts.

This is the 4th year the two
groups have combined efforts for a great cause! |
