Peter Pfeifer Running for Reelection

My values, beliefs and approach to issues are well known to some of you. If you don’t know much about me, I’ll give you some brief specifics about those.

I have pride in Fayette County, in Georgia and in the United States of America.  I am a Republican. I am a Conservative Republican.

Conservatives have lately been described, in the media, as belonging to one, or more, of three different legs of the Conservative movement.  You can’t see them but I have all three of these legs; I am a social, a financial and a security Conservative. 

We never know how a person will behave in public office until we elect them and they actually serve.  I’ve served, so you know how I will behave.  To borrow a line from Sean Hannity’s radio show, I am “Standing up for what’s right”.   

My goal is to serve you.  I am outspoken when I think your interest is not being represented or respected. I am independent when I think the direction is wrong and I try to patiently and calmly represent you. 

You may not always agree with me, I'd be real surprised if you did, but I tell you what I think and believe and I don't lie to you. 

If that’s what you want from an elected official, you have it.  And, if I’ve served in a way that you approve, I ask for your support, and I ask you for your vote.

But, what about you?  You’re reading this because you think being informed about political issues can improve your life, or your children’s lives or your grandchildren’s lives. 

Beyond our County, and certainly well beyond my candidacy, it is obvious that our State and our Nation need good leadership. 

Think about some quotations.  “Be a part of the solution or part of the problem.”  I don’t know who first said that. 

“The summer soldiers and sunshine patriots will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country” and “Lead, follow, or get out of the way.”  Thomas Paine said those during the American Revolution. 

I also know that Thomas Jefferson said: “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent”.  Or even more simply, “Evil succeeds when good men do nothing”, William Wilberforce. 

There are variations of that statement – all true.  While there is some dispute about whether or not Edmond Burke said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”, neither Jefferson nor Wilberforce “did nothing” nor “remained silent”, so their statements alone are good enough for me. 

So, what about you?  First, if you’re informed, go vote.  Another quote; Bob Lenox’s famous (or infamous) comment; “If you don’t vote, you don’t count.” 

Get your friends to vote in agreement with you, tell them voting is on a Wednesday if they don’t agree with you.   

Second, give. Give what you can in money or volunteer time, or both.  At the very least, write Letters to the Editor or to the local blogs or verbally give people your informed opinions.  If you wait to let someone else do it, it won’t get done.  You’ll have to do it; we’re all counting on you.
