Students Present at Capitol Tech DayPresley Fear, fifth grade, East Fayette; Mitchell Tuck, fifth grade, East Fayette; Menaka Reddy, sixth grade, Fayette Middle and Derreck DaSliva, sixth grade, Fayette Middle, along with East Fayette enrichment teacher Sallye Martin, will participate in Capitol Tech Day on February 6 where they will present their academic websites from last year’s PROMOTE Georgia website building competition. The East Fayette group is one of 13 student groups from the state selected to participate and the only one invited by West Georgia’s Educational Training Technology Center to represent its service district. Both the students and their teacher are excited about having the opportunity to showcase their technology skills under the state’s golden dome. “They had huge smiles on their faces and were jumping up and down,” says Martin about the students’ reactions when they learned they had been selected to participate in Capitol Tech Day. “I was delighted that the work of these students and their coach was being recognized. I immediately accepted the invitation and danced around the room,” adds Martin. Martin is quick to point out that the students will be the ones making the presentation since they are the experts. Not only will they show the websites they developed through the PROMOTE Georgia program, but they will also explain their roles in creating them and what they learned from the experience. “I am their coach. I am there to support them but the presentations are theirs. I am excited that these four student leaders have this unique opportunity to experience one more professional situation involving PROMOTE Georgia. The entire project requires them to act as teams of professionals, now they take their professionalism to the state Capitol,” says Martin. Home | Potpourri | Back to top
