Young Scientists Showcase Experiments

Students from middle and high schools across the county submitted projects for the fair. A total of 24 projects were awarded first place and will now advance to the Griffin Regional Science and Engineering Fair scheduled for February 28 at the University of Georgia Experimental Center in Griffin.

Students entered projects individually or as teams. Middle school team winners advancing to the regional fair are (Bennett’s Mill) Jackie Roshelli and Madeline Davis; (J.C. Booth) Taylor Kerns and Shannon Smith; (Flat Rock) Justin Johnson and John Miller; (Rising Starr) Hannah Feltner and Regan Chewning; Allie Buchanan and Jessica Richey.

Middle school individual winners going to regionals are (Bennett’s Mill) Ryan Hogan, Kensey Seidel, (Fayette Middle) Joel Kovalcson, Rebecca Otwell, (Rising Starr) Shandry Wilckens and Shannon McKillip.

High school first place team winners heading for the regional competition are (Fayette County) Jasmine Akinsipe and Kristina Fain; Krishan Bhagat, Michael Martin and Julian Urrego; Christian Concepcion, Joni Barnard and Asad Abdulla; Amy Hebel, Chris Feigenbaum and Natalie Lemus; Sonika Reddy and Sonya Jooma; (Sandy Creek) Camara Carter and Poonim Daya; (Starr’s Mill) Kirsten Skov and Aubrey Edkins.

High school individual winners advancing to the regional level are (McIntosh) Brahma Natarajan, Zenia Zheng, Sadie Mason, (Starr’s Mill) Lauren Beatty, Amy Wheble and Scarlet Roland.

A special award from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, Atlanta Chapter, was presented to Krishan Bhagat, Michael Martin and Julian Urrego of Fayette County High and Allie Buchanan and Jessica Richey of Rising Starr Middle.

Sponsors for the 2008 Fayette County Science and Engineering Fair were Integrated Science and Engineering, Capital Microscopes, Georgia Specialty Company, LLC, Frey Scientific, Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (Atlanta Chapter) and Fayette County Association of Educators.
